Can culture change anything?
http://paulocoelhoblog.com
I want to hear your opinion on culture.
Do you think that culture can change anything in this world?
I will be participating this week in a cultural forum in Avignon / France and will meet people there that put a lot of hope in what they believe in the same way I do but sometimes we feel that despite our best efforts the world doesn't change.
Yesterday I saw a movie about WWI ("All Quiet in the Western Front") and had the realization that a lot of things haven't changed. Nonetheless we cannot lose hope so this is why I'm turning to you: How do you think we could use culture in a more effective and powerful way?

Working On The Farm Requires A Good Pair Of Workgloves
In Louisiana there are many jobs that require using your hands. We have lots on jobs that involve manual labor. One of those is a crawfish farm.
A crawfish farm is where crawfish are raised for commercial sales. This could be to restaurants or individuals. The crawfish are raised in land that is flooded with water. The way that the level of the water is controlled is for someone to walk along levees to spots where ditches meet the levee. Then using a shovel, the person cuts an opening in the levee letting the water flow through. Having a good pair of work gloves will make all the difference in the world. The right set of work gloves can mean the difference between just a hard day of work and a nightmarish day.

What do you think of my writing!!!!!!!?
I was 13, it was summer and life couldn’t have been more perfect. In the morning, I would get up and go fishing in the pond. It was in the middle of my housing development and was stocked with fish: largemouth bass, carp, catfish. The sunfish were ubiquitous and probably ended up there on their own. It was the bass I was after, but they only bit where there was an edge; the edge of the shallows, the edge of a shadow, and particularly, the edge of the day. So I only fished on the edges of the day, when the clouds are orange and the water is still and the crickets sing. It made sense to me, the best activity was reserved for the best part of the day.
When they stopped biting I went over my catches in my head while I walked home slowly. People hurry when they aren’t happy, they want to get somewhere else, and fast. I enjoyed the walk home as much as the fishing; I wanted to find pleasure in everything. I didn’t really know what Zen was, but I believed it was very Zen of me.
If my friend Gina was available, we would hang out. We were very close at the time, but to be honest, we didn’t do much. I couldn’t tell you how many times we passed the hours sitting on her porch or her parent’s cars, just talking. Our conversations were shallow and meaningless, often gossip. We got along because we could converse easily, we never rubbed the hair wrong, and most importantly, she was always there. It seemed most kids were endlessly shuffled from activities and obligations and Gina and I were the only ones to opt out.
Gina was black with poor parents and 5 or so siblings. She failed too many classes and ended up in the school set aside for screw ups the next year (ironically, during segregation it was the ‘black’ school and it still pretty much is). It wasn’t because she was lazy or unmotivated, she just wasn’t all that smart. She had a quick temper and the social cool of an mean drunk; it gave her a lot of enemies. Her house was littered with AA books and bibles crammed with sticky notes and smelled like Cajun food. She was probably in section 8 housing. Her parents fought. I wasn’t trying to pry, but I knew her family was screwed up and somehow felt I could teach her to change and grow up differently. There wasn’t any point in it though, she was doomed from conception.
Hello,
Your writing is average, but can you PLEASE CHANGE WHAT YOU ARE WRITING ABOUT. As an african-american I found it quite offensive when you introduced Gina. It seems so, overall, cliche. Like wth, why does she have to be poor, 5 or SO SIBLINGS, failing her classes, and CLAIMED AS NOT ‘SMART’ and to top it all off ‘doomed before conception’!
Happy Writing
.

emo, gothic–call it whatever !!?
i’m originally from beaumont,tx–an hour east of houston, thirty minutes from louisiana so it’s a twist of country with big city and a cajun influence. it’s a nice place to me but not to my mother. i’ve stayed there half my life. it rains frquently for those of you that’ve never heard of this place. almost every day. there’s always a vast expanse of dark clouds hovering over the town, day and night–summer and winter and my mother says it’s depressing and evil and that’s why so many people are so mean and moody there with a little dose of misery. i like it actually, the aged decay and the lack of sun, does this make me emo ?
why do you suppose this is ?
she says it looks like gothem (from batman)–AND I ENJOY IT !
No, because alot of ppl are like that but arent emo, they just enjoy it. You just like sorrow and dark stuff. But u arent an emo…

Steve “Zetro” Souza- vocals
Rick Hunolt- guitars
Gary Holt- guitars
Rob McKillop- bass
John Tempesta- drums
Down in the bayou where the alligators roam
Live some people, you leave them alone
Getting lost may be your last mistake
Unfriendly strangers, unkindly they take
Living off the fat of the land
They hold their justice in the palm of their hand
Lay down your gun and surrender quiet
Or there’s gonna be a Cajun riot
Danger in the swamp, that waits for you
There’s nothing left that you can do
Better watch your back, for the vicious attack
‘Cause they’ll be looking for you
Playing with your life, for your life is too short
Pain is too good for you
Your last breath, is all you have left
Take it before you’re doomed
Cajun hell
Before you’re doomed
Raising hell
and they’re ready for fighting
Huntin’ gators and drinking white lightning
Brewin’ moonshine at a still in the swamp
Playing Creole from dusk until dawn
Protect their own is the law of the land
Mess with their law it will get out of hand
Keep it in mind if you’re ever down there
It might be fatal, you better beware
i did not help make this song or album, nor do i know Exodus, and i’m not affiliated with them or any of their distributors.
