Just an FYI it has gone down hill every year, this year I am not going. Some people I know that went said that people were fighting all night. They left b/c they didn’t feel safe.

Aren’t there some Liberal groups in the Deep South?

I thinking it makes being Liberal in the South that much more meaningful when you are of a group that is in the small minority.

I think I can list a few of them in different times and decades?

1) The kids in Athens, Georgia who started the B-52s and the psychedelic music scene and created the dead beat club.

2) There was a socialist utopian experiment in Tennessee called the Ruskin Colony and it flourished for several years and then sadly fell apart. This was back in the 1800s and it was so far ahead of its time it’s unbelievable.

3) Helen Keller came out of Alabama and became a socialist pacifist and women’s activist before women even attended college and had voting rights.

4) The formation of the international Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in the heart of Savannah, Georgia changed the shape of the sleeping town with artisan coffee shops everywhere.

5) New Orleans mix of French culture, fruit markets, cajun culture
Then you have trial lawyers like John Edwards.

You have hippies in Asheville, North Carolina.

You have the rainbow tribe in the woodland Forests of Northern Alabama
I also think the African American culture of the South has kept a certain Liberal element such as:

Doin’ the Carolina Shag. (Southern swing, blues, jazz.
Nikki, and that’s what you call a Democracy? I thought you have freedom of choice

As you see, it is still difficult being a liberal in the South. Openness to new ideas is not one of the virtues of many places in that part of the country. It is changing for the better however.

Movies with a bayou feeling?

So I kind of fell in love with Renee’s cajun accent on true blood, and then I stumbled on to the princess and the frog disney movie… Since I fell in love with this whole cajun/bayou/Louisiana culture I need more movies with the bayou in it! Not documentaries, just sweet movies(dramas, romances, disney etc.).

A Little Cajun Story.

That movie is about as Cajun as you can get. Its not sweet, there’s a lot of drama, but its a great movie! And, seeing as I live in South Louisiana, I can tell you all the accents are the real thing. So, either those are locals, or they have amazing vocal coaches.

Exodus – Cajun Hell

Exodus – Cajun (1989 Fabulous Disaster)

Steve “Zetro” Souza – Vocal
Gary Holt – Guitarra
Rick Hunolt – Guitarra
Rob McKillop – Baixo
Tom Hunting – Bateria

Letra Da Musica:

Down in the bayou where the alligators roam
Live some people, you leave them alone
Getting lost may be your last mistake
Unfriendly strangers, unkindly they take
Living off the fat of the land
They hold their justice in the palm of their hand
Lay down your gun and surrender quiet
Or there’s gonna be a Cajun riot

Danger in the swamp, that waits for you
There’s nothing left that you can do
Better watch your back, for the vicious attack
‘Cause they’ll be looking for you
Playing with your life, for your life is too short
Pain is too good for you
Your last breath, is all you have left
Take it before you’re doomed
Cajun hell
Before you’re doomed

Raising hell, and they’re ready for fighting
Huntin’ gators and drinking white lightning
Brewin’ moonshine at a still in the swamp
Playing Creole from dusk until dawn
Protect their own is the law of the land
Mess with their law it will get out of hand
Keep it in mind if you’re ever down there
It might be fatal, you better beware
