Can anyone recommend good literature from Creole and Cajun culture?

I’m doing research for a book and I want to get a real sense of the culture, the people, the dialect. Can you recommend some literary works as well as maybe music, or movies? The more authentic and close to the source, the better.
It would also be great if it would be children focused.

To be honest, we are really barely literate. You’re talking about some people who are very… "country." We have made almost no mark on the landscape of American culture. There’s some literature ABOUT us though– try Evangeline or something.
