Lebanon…have you ever heard of Cajun American Zydeco music?
Weird question…I know.
I’m not necessarily a huge fan, but if you want to hear what it sounds like, you can hear some of it here:

Zydeco is okay, it has a spirit that really captures French Louisiana.
Not Zydeco, but for the Bayou experience I like:
Well Jambalaya, crawfish pie, chili gumbo
Well tonight I’m gonna see my cara mia
My Yvonne, sweetest one
Me oh my oh
Son of a gun, gonna have big fun
On the Bayou

We had a Zydeco band play last summer at our local festival. I usually don’t go for that type of folk music, but these guys were fantastic! The ones you have listed from utube don’t compare! Oh my and we also had bourbon chicken that was to die for! Makes me want to go visit Louisiana. I also love Cajun food! I’ll take some red beans and rice and some cajun chicken please. Throw in a bit of gumbo. Yum… ashame the kids are taking us out to eat Italian tomorrow! lol

When in doubt, can’t go wrong with olive oil, thyme and a sprinkle of Tony Chachere’s Cajun seasoning. (((drools)))
I comlpletely agree, I was not trying to say what is the American way, rather I was commenting on the fact that the person attempted to label what the American way is, which is immposible. As David puts, the American way is open completly to interpretation. The person suggested a posible meaning to the American way and I responded in an attempt to show that there are two sides (in reality many more) to what the American Dream is all about. You are correct there is no definte answer.
WHO LISTENS TO ZYDECO IN AN OFFICE! At least play adult contemporary if you ain't gonna mess with some headphones
Holy moly. Can’t believe I’ve never heard of these! No leaks or anything?

True. I just think that people have become so inflamed by the idea of the “made up” name (the name with no etymological origin that’s just cobbled together from syllables that the parents find euphonious) that we jump to conclusions. Kiran isn’t an awful-sounding name to my ears, regardless of the fact that it’s both an Irish AND an Indian name. Gertrude is an awful name, regardless of the fact that it is a legit name. But when you assume that a name is made up just because you have never heard of it, it comes off as ethnocentric and ignorant.

BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN
Why American men should boycott American women
I am an American man, and I have decided to boycott American women. In a nutshell, American women are the most likely to cheat on you, to divorce you, to get fat, to steal half of your money in the divorce courts, don't know how to cook or clean, don't want to have children, etc. Therefore, what intelligent man would want to get involved with American women?
American women are generally immature, selfish, extremely arrogant and self-centered, mentally unstable, irresponsible, and highly unchaste. The behavior of most American women is utterly disgusting, to say the least.
This blog is my attempt to explain why I feel American women are inferior to foreign women (non-American women), and why American men should boycott American women, and date/marry only foreign (non-American) women.
BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN!
Taste can play a big role for me. I tend to eat junk food in cycles, where I might eat one particular candy consistently for a few weeks or months straight. Usually if I eat these sweets a few years after I ate them consistently in a cycle, memories of the time period where I used to eat that kind of food flood in.

Doing work reports with eyes burning and watching BET!But drinking a big cup of coffee of course! I need to be awaked!
No reply button up top, so- very cool. I know nothing about zydeco, so the videos (nice, Stringer) and your observations are great. (The ‘dance studio salsa’ bit- I know what you mean. The ballroom bachateros always get me, but I tell myself that at least they’re having fun and try not to laugh too much at that silly damn kick.)
Hey, Nice to read about Cajun writer, environmentalist. I am Cajun and should contact this guy and find out what kinds of conservationist things one can do…here in Louisiana. Thanks for the photos. I guess I have to say the old boat motor is the most lovely thing of all! LOL…. That broom is haunted! And that's the first surfboard I ever saw with stained glass in it…swamp surf board I mean. I'm writing a Cajun story but am stalled…for three days now…writer's block or stupidity, one or the other! THANKS.

To clarify on Sutcliffe Mike, when I heard him mention Joba to the pen late this year and for 2009, he didn't advocate for the rest of his career, at least not when I heard him mention it late in the game. If he did so earlier, I didn't hear it. The quote I heard from him was “the rest of this year and in 2009.” My point was to use Sutcliffe's proposition as an entry into the discussion. That said, I don't mind if you rail on Sutcliffe.
Nola2, I was more than fair to my home town New Orleans in my commentary. What would you have one say that could be fairer? It has great food but Cajun is Lafayette and Acadiana. Creole is New Orleans. I didn't “knock” New Orleans at all and invited people to go there and taste what it offers, but the Cajun culture IS alive and well in Lafayette and that includes cuisine, family and language. If my comments were deemed unfair to New Orleans, then the Big Easy needs to take a deep breath and take it easy! One CAN explain Cajun and New Orleans without being labeled unfair.
