How do I set up my email software ?The exact steps you need to take to set up your email client depends on your choice of software. You should refer to the help files of the particular brand of software you intend to use to read and compose email to find out how to set up and use it properly. Most email programs offer a walk though setup routine (called a wizard) to help you get started. Most email software will need to have the following information:
Back to TopIs there a size limit on my email box?Yes. Your email repository is limited to 3MB of storage. If you regularly receive large files or large numbers of small files that accumulate in your email box, you may experience a temporary loss of email service if your email exceeds the repository limit. This possible problem can be prevented by avoiding the use of email for large file transfers and by regularly checking your email box to clear its contents. Back to TopDoes email ever get lost or delayed? Please remember that electronic mail must be transported over the Internet mail relay system, and as a result it must pass through many different relay points and machines to reach its destination. Our servers dispatch mail and clear all queues once every minute to insure prompt delivery and peak performance, but while we strive to keep all our systems operationally sound, we cannot guarantee the entire Internet email relay system. If you experience lost or delayed email, we certainly apologize, but be advised that there are many exterior factors involved -- and more often than not problems with email "Fix" themselves as these factors are adjusted dynamically by remote delivery systems or by users.Back to TopWhy does some email take so long to receive? Please understand that email messages are data files; just like any other form of electronic information. And as such they must be transferred from our servers to your local computer via telephone lines. When you check your email, our systems deliver the email from your Crawfish Net repository to your local hard drive at the best possible speed supported by both machines -- adjusted by other underlying conditions such as telephone line quality. Please bear in mind that if someone has sent you a one-megabyte piece of email (a large picture for instance), it will take approximately 5-25 minutes to be transferred to your machine.Back to TopI can send email, but people can't reply to me. Why?It is important that the routing information in your email software is correct. If the Crawfish Net email server address is wrong, you will not able to reach our servers to claim your mail. If your return email address in the email software was incorrectly recorded, your email could be lost or delayed while it is re-routed back to the sender who must then try to figure out your correct address. Consult your help files and make sure you have filled out all the required fields in your email software.Back to TopWhy did I get an error message when sending mail?If you occasionally experience an error message while sending or receiving email, please take a moment to confirm that you are indeed connected to the Internet through Crawfish Net Internet services, and that the address of the email recipient is correct. Our servers run diagnostic and refresh cycles periodically that could also delay the processing of your message exchange. If you get a socket or server error message, please wait a few moments and simply try again. If you try again and still receive an error, please call the Crawfish Net Inc. office or emergency number (after you have confirmed that you are connected and that the email address you are using is valid). Back to TopCan I use email to promote my business?Crawfish Net Inc. has very strict policies about the use of email as promotional material. Our corporate policies on the issues of unsolicited email and commercial bulk emailing parallel the current industry mindset. We work hard to assure the fair and equal accessibility of email for everyone, but at the same time we do not permit email or newsgroup Spamming to originate from our machinery. We maintain comprehensive server logs, and will immediately terminate any account suspected of using the Crawfish Net email system for unsolicited mass emailing. The Crawfish Net Inc. Terms of Service Strictly Prohibit the use of Crawfish Net accounts as email drops for Spamming and Mass Email Campaigns. Back to TopWhat the heck is Web-Based Email?Simply put, Web-based email is electronic mail that can be accessed using a Web browser. It is stored in much the same manner as standard POP (file based) email, but when delivered it is presented as HTML -- WWW Web pages. You can do most of the same things with it as you can POP email, but it offers limited customization and is very slow. Large file delivery is cumbersome and often fails because of the limitations of HTML transfer issues. The one advantage of Web-based email is in its' accessibility. You can create a free web-based account with your own username and password, then retrieve your mail from virtually any computer in the world that is capable of accessing the Internet. While it is true that you can check regular email from other locations also, you are first required to set the remote computers' email software to access the Crawfish Net server. And even if you do that, you will still be unable to SEND email through your CFWeb account unless you're actually logged into Crawfish Net -- this is because of our network email security measures. |
