How do I set up my email software ?

The exact steps you need to take to set up your email client depends on your choice of software. You should refer to the help files of the particular brand of software you intend to use to read and compose email to find out how to set up and use it properly.

Most email software will need to have the following information:

  • The name of your mail server: mail.cfweb.net

When in doubt. Read the program's HELP files.

What Web Browser do I use?

We can't really recommend one Web browser over any other, but we know of two free Web browsers that are widely available. These are Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

You can use any Web browser you want, it's really a matter of taste, ease of use, and what features you expect.

Why does all this Junk Email come to my computer?

Question:
"Right now I have 76 e-mails in my in-box!  Many are duplicates or quadruplicates.  I delete my e-mail almost daily, but some just keep coming back.   I notice many are from AOL members.  What's up?  Please advise."

Answer:
From what you describe, it sounds like you've made it onto some junk email
lists. Mailing lists for Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE -- also commonly
referred to as SPAM) are a huge problem on the Internet. It has been
declared illegal in three states (Washington, Virginia, and to a lesser
degree -- in California).
These messages are the product of overzealous advertisers that have no idea
who you are. They simply email millions of advertisements out and hope for a
few responses.
Most of the messages you receive are NOT from the address that is listed in
the return address box. Spammers often disguise their real email address
from you so you cannot complain to their ISP. If you track down their
correct ISP, you can often shut down their account and put them out of
business -- temporarily.
There are some steps you can take to protect yourself from this unwanted
email. How you deal with Spam is a matter of personal taste (or distaste)
and how diligent you wish to be about your privacy.
These Websites contain a wealth of information on how to use software and
other solutions to reduce or eliminate Spam from your email box.

How do I get rid of those piles of dirt in my yard?

Question: (From an AOL user....) <g>
"
How do you get rid of those crawfish that makes a pile of dirt
in your yard.  There are so many holes in the back yard from them.  They are
the smaller crawfish and we can't seem to get rid of them.  They are messing
up the yard pretty bad.  Please e-mail me with any suggestions you have.  I
really appreciate it alot. Thank you."

Answer:
You need to contact AOL for support on this issue...

What is a 404 error?

Anytime you click on a link to access a Webpage, all you are really doing is requesting to look at a file on a remote computer. The link contains information that helps other computers along the way to relay your request to the destination computer. When your request is received at the other end, the computer there (called a server) looks on its hard drive to find the file you asked for. If that file is not available -- out of date, wrong address, temporarily unavailable etc. -- then the server returns a 404 error and you see an error page on your browser.
Best thing to do is try again later and if you still get a 404 error, report the bad link to that Website's Webmaster. Please do not report 404 errors to Crawfish Net, unless the link is to a file on the Crawfish Net Website.
